abilities
Lord John began his life in Abraxas as a soldier and thus his magical training and abilities began their focus around his position in the City Guard. John retains his original Horizon-given ability to summon a sword made of light on command and has become highly skilled with it, as well as many similarly useful guard spells for shielding himself and others and basic field healing.

His true abilities arose from John’s dedication to truth and justice above all things. He has the ability to see through to one’s true inner thoughts if he so chooses, though he uses this ability sparingly and rarely among friends. He is also capable of disguising himself or others or making himself or others fully invisible if he so chooses. In short, he would make an excellent spy, and has done so for more than one territory here.

In his godhood, he likes to appear not as himself to his worshippers but rather as a satyr because he thinks it’s funny. In his benevolence, in exchange for their gifts of offering he’ll boost their charm and charisma to help them with their love lives, or help them try to get rid of Unwanted Thoughts, depending on their wishes.

etc John obviously isn’t known to his worshippers as Lord John, but rather Veritas, because they share the truth of their heart with him and he helps them as he can in exchange. It’s a very different role from his personal life as a wandering soldier but he finds he likes things better that way.

history

John is not a man particularly given to settling in one place. Especially not after the fall of the Kingdom of Thorne. He is used to living quite a lonely life and he is used to friends coming and going. Holding his heart close to his chest. Ironic, given his godhood abilities...
the first 400 years
Lord John began his tenure in Abraxas as a member of the Thorne City Guard. This was not out of love for the royals of Thorne so much as a loyalty towards the people there with him and those in the City beyond. Lord John did not join the Guard necessarily with the intent of climbing the ranks within the Guard, but he is a soldier and as all good soldiers do, he gained the attention of the higher-ups.

He gained promotions, was privy to secrets within Thorne. He was well within the inner circle when it became clear that the Kingdom was under grave threat. He did what he could to save what he could, who he could, but he is only one man and even with the powers he had gained by then, he understood his limitations. Still, in his darker moments he does blame himself for not having done better, not being able to stop the fall of Thorne. His friends tried to get him to leave, get out of danger, and perhaps he should have gone sooner, but he stayed for as long as he could not out of duty to the royals but for the others who did not have the luxury he did of a promised place of safety beyond the fallen gates.

When he did eventually escape, he went to live in the Northern Mountains with Geralt, where he winters. John spent some time then re-learning who he was, without the structure he had built for himself for the past several hundred years...
the second 400 years
John does not much care for staying in one place, save for when he spends time with Geralt in the Northern Mountains in winter. He is a man who enjoys the pleasures in life: wine and fresh air and walking in the countryside, and thus he has fashioned his godform after a satyr and spends a lot of time wandering the countryside talking to folk and listening to their stories. Sometimes he will amuse himself by gathering some of the best of them and writing them down.

He likes to call this half of his time in Abraxas his "old age", although he has been old for a while now. There are some pieces of his life back before arriving here that he remembers and misses dearly: namely, his son. But there are other things he can't quite put a finger on anymore. The rest of his family, did he have any? Who else did he leave behind? Stories of his childhood. Sometimes they are there but gone again and whether that is because of the length of time he has been here or through some other means, he cannot say. He tries not to think too hard on it.

-Sometime in the past 800 years John's Horizon domain has changed itself from the Beefsteak to a modest country home (by John's standards at least -- it's still a mansion to most others'). Once upon a time he joked about settling down there. Its grounds boast gardens, some fields, a pond, and a bit of forest, and John can attest they are all most excellent for exploring/wandering.
